Welcome to Project Praelium
Inspired by classic JRPGs such as Shin Megami Tensei and Trails, we've put together a short (~60 minutes) prototype focusing heavily on fleshing out the core mechanics of our strategic turn-based battle system. Explore the forest, find new party members, and fight powerful foes. Exploiting weaknesses and efficiently using Critica is crucial to make it through the forest alive!
Battle System Features
Critica Gauge
- Exploit enemy weaknesses to build your Critica Gauge.
- Use Critica Points (CP) to cast powerful abilities.
- Break the turn order by casting Critica Abilities before the enemies can attack!
Delay Queue
- More powerful abilities result in a longer delay until you can act again.
- Use Critica to cast an ability even when it's not your turn!
Strategic Combat
- Exploiting weaknesses and building Critica is essential, else you may find yourself trapped in the forest forever.
As we are beginners in game development, we felt that it was important to build a vertical slice around the battle system. We want to gather feedback on how battles feel to play and what players think of the Critica mechanic. There are many missing pieces that most turn-based RPGs have (exp/leveling, items, character building, etc...) that we haven't developed yet. This is because we want to ensure that the core mechanics of our battle system are fun and challenging enough to be worth fleshing out other systems in the game.
